On December 4th, 2019, Wipro, one of the leading global information technology companies, announced the launch of a NextGen Cyber Defense Centre in Melbourne. With the launch of the new center, Wipro strives to make sound investments towards improving the knowledge-base of its employees, hire the services of local personnel, and generate over 100 cybersecurity specialist jobs in Melbourne. In addition, the company expressed its desire to develop similar facilities in other regions of Australia to provide a robust digital solution to large-scale government organizations.

According to research carried out by Wipro wherein around 10% of the organizations were from Australia, over 50% respondents revealed that finding solutions to tackle ransomware attacks is the top priority. In addition, the global breach rate i.e. the volume of records stolen per second has witnessed considerable growth in the past year which further fuels the need to implement a robust cybersecurity solution. The newly launched cyber defense center will enable customers to asses and administer their cyber risks by relying on managed services including security monitoring and analytics, threat intelligence, vulnerability management and more.

The center was inaugurated by the Minister of Economic Development, Parliament of Victoria, Tim Pallas amidst the presence of the leadership team, technology partners, and local employees. He said, “Melbourne is Australia’s leading tech city and we welcome this investment by Wipro – a leading global information technology company. The establishment of this defense center will strengthen Victoria’s capability in cybersecurity and draw on the local expertise to help Wipro protect Australian organizations from cyber-related incidents.

The cybersecurity sector in Australia is currently experiencing steady growth as more and more tech and IT companies are providing cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions to address the current challenges within the cybersecurity space. For instance, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), revealed that the institute is preparing to launch a Cloud Innovation Center (CIC) by next year with a clear objective of providing reliable solutions to overcome the cybersecurity challenges in the country. The CIC is an integral part of the global chain of centers launched by Amazon Web Services (AWS) to boost innovation in the public sector by collaborating with universities such as the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne and Arizona State University.

The cybersecurity market is expected to grow at an impressive pace in the near future owing to the growing adoption of cloud-based solutions, high demand for cybersecurity solutions for IoT devices and rising awareness related to the advantages of cybersecurity solutions. The advent of disruptive technologies such as blockchain has created a significant demand for robust cybersecurity solutions as a compromised blockchain could lead to unauthorized and fraudulent financial activities, infringement of data, and more. In addition, the growing adoption of IoT solutions across organizations worldwide has presented significant opportunities for cybersecurity service providers and the trend is expected to continue in the foreseeable future.
