Rack and pinion are gears and the mechanism of gear converts rotary motion into linear motion. Pinion is round gear that engages teeth on linear gear rack end or axial joints which is a toothed bar used in rack-and-pinion steering systems for translating rotational motion of pinion into linear motion. The combination of rack and pinion are often uses as a part of linear actuator.
